How to Find the Right Followers on Google+

1. Google+ signup.  If you aren’t already, you will need to sign up for a personal Google account.  You might be surprised that you already have an account that you didn’t realize, especially if you are using any Google products already such as Gmail.  Once you sign up, make sure you fill out every field possible.  We recently wrote about how important this part is as this is the section that will typically show up in search results.  Once you are finally setup, Google will then scan your connections and see if any of them are currently using Google+ and then invites you to connect with them.

2.  Connect.  The entire point of all social media platforms is to connect with people.  Search for keywords of the subjects and/or niches that you are interested in.  Similar to Twitter, the results will deliver people and/or brands that share the same interests.  These are the results that you want to connect by adding to your circles, as they may do the same.  Even though Google+ is still fairly young, there are many available tools out there to help you find and connect top influencers such as  This site will show you who the top influencers are and allow you to narrow it down by location which is extremely valuable if you own a local business.

3.  Stay active.  Even though Google+ still seems like a ghost town when you are signed in, it’s important to remain active.  Post just as frequently as you do on your Facebook page.  It will take a bit of time, but eventually it will start gaining momentum on search results and followers.

What has your experience been with Google+ so far on a personal and business level?
