You have likely been using Facebook for your personal use for a while now.  Facebook has taken the over as the main form of communication for people by allowing a simple way to keep family and friends updated with events, thoughts and photos very easily.  Business owners should also be taking part of the social media giant as well.  Here are several simple tips on creating an effective Facebook business page.

The first thing you will want to do is visit the Facebook Page Signup Page.  You will then be given several options to choose from defining a more precise type of business that you own.  These options are:

  • Local Business or Place
  • Company, Organization or Institution
  • Brand or Product
  • Artist, Brand or Public Figure
  • Entertainment
  • Cause or Community

It is important to pick out the specific classification above as it will affect your search rankings by providing more relevant information to searchers.  If you are a local business, filling out this information in its entirety should be part of your local online marketing strategy.  Once you select the appropriate classification, you will then go a few more steps asking for basic information such as your company name, location, URL and more.  Facebook limits how much you can change after it’s setup, so choose the setup options carefully.

Complete All of the Fields

This has to be one of the most important steps that business owners look over.  These fields have a very serious impact on search rankings if done correctly.  Make sure that you upload a clear photo that you want to use as an image representing a company such as a logo.  Once you have filled in all of the fields during setup, click on “Edit info” and fill in the remaining information including hours, description, email, website, etc.  As mentioned above, it’s important to fill out everything with as much detail as possible.
